The all important hosting

What I require from a hosting provider is simple:

1. That they understand that when it comes to all things server, I am an idiot, an amateur at best. That I have a development server I set up and use for myself but I'd never, ever, offer it commercially.
2. That despite the above, they treat me with just a tiny amount of respect and show that they are supportive.

I have never shied away from paying well for hosting, never shied away from upgrading where necessary but if I choose to pay a host, I do so because I am looking for their expertise, their support and to build a trusting relationship with them, so that a crucial part of my business feels safe, and I can sleep at night.

My personal blog, with its thousands of daily visits, along with numerous client sites are in the good and capable hands of my local chums Merlan Systems, and over roughly two years they have been rock solid, and remain so to this day. I thoroughly recommend them and those sites, on their servers, are staying put.

This site, however, has a slightly different story, not involving Merlan; the long and short of it being I decided enough was enough and moved to a new host, yesterday, on a whim, because I can. I was going to go straight back to Merlan but I had heard so many good things about Segpub I decided to be brave and give them a try, no harm in trying now is there!

I am not going to attempt a full review after only a few hours but I will tell you first impressions are seriously good. From signing up, to moving my data, to configuring my set up, they have exceeded my expectations from the word go. Immediately I feel I am with people who know what they are doing and who actually care about my hosting.

So today, for the first time here, I feel I am in safe hands and once the DNS has settled down, here's to a happier days ahead!
